    early overseas Schiffchen without markings?

    Hello,

how common is it, if possible at all, that an early overseas cap for the Heer with Soutache and insignia with darkgreen backings has no stamps or markings (maker, size, Bekleidungsamt, year) on the lining?

    Thank You for any comments

Not especially common at all...but the earliest caps used insignia that was white on a light gray backing...both cockade and eagle. I would expect all of these to have marks of some sort. The insignia you describe, while early, as well, persisted until late in the war, so one could find a cap such as you describe. I think the soutache' was ordered off in early-mid 1943

I've seen several M34 caps with no markings that came from very reliable sources...Some may at one time had marking but were worn away...
If it's unmarked does not make it a repo nor would I consider it a red flag...
