I am helping a family indentify and possibly liquidate several items of historical interest and would like your opinion on approximate value. No mothing, but shows a little wear at the rear on the braided cloth band. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I believe this to be a Navy officer's cap...Does the bullion braid on the bill denote a specific rank? Thanks in advance. Brian

Hello Brian,
From the pics it looks to be a nice cap, although to comment it, the specialists on these kind of items of this forum would need better pictures.
The embroidery on the visor indicates the rank of a junior commissioned officer from Leutnant z. See to Kapitänleutnant (Kaleu). Here a couple of links with a better graphical and written explaination:

I hope that this helped you.
Ciao,

It certainly looks like a very nice jr. officer's cap. It would be nice to see a close up of the eagle and the cap interior.
Assuming its authenticity, I think it would be hard to find a dealer who would sell it for less than $2,000 these days.
I'd love to hear Gordon's or Michel's opinions.

Hello All,
The pictures are not very good and detailed but I think that is a good cap.
If you post more picture I could be more affirmative.

I could not get your pics to open however, if it is original I would be interested in it. I would purchase it outright or trade.
Thanks!
