A most unusual LW camo helmet...

Have a look at the hand painted shield on the right side. It looks like it says "47 Pz" to me. What could this be??

Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

I am trying to get a bigger pic. The helmet is an M42 luft that the owner cut a triangle out of paper and masked off the eagle before he applied the camo. It's an Italian theatre kind of camo. This bizarre thing on the other side has been on there a long time... but was it a kid in the 1950's or is it something else??

There was no 47 Pz Division nor was there a 47 Pz Regiment. If there was, why would a LW helmet be used. There is no mention of a 47 Pz that I could find in the History of the HG Fallschirm Panzerkorps. Nafzingers German OOBs lists no 47 Pz that I could find.

Just some historical backup for everyone on this.

This helmet came from an old music shop... not a dealer. Whatever that wierd thing painted on the side is is at least 50/50 period done. Maybe an educated kid got it in the 1950's and added that... but it was done long ago...

Mysteries are so much more fun than the millions of boring helmets, right??

It almost looks like the numbers 38 overtop the PZ?

'It almost looks like the numbers 38 overtop the PZ?'

I agree that there is something else there, but I can't make it out. We all know it's not a Luftwaffe panzer helmet. If I had to guess, I'd guess a kid in the 1960's painted that on there with model paint so that he had a panzer helmet to play "Rat Patrol" with.

How does everybody feel about the camo? I know it's tough from just photos. He wants at least $1300 for it - thoughts?

                            Thanks - Mike

I'm sure you would find another one without that mysterious painting for 1300 USD, specially at the moment where selling seems difficult.
