I am sure you are all aware of his misdeeds by selling fake helmets, flags, holocaust memorabilia, etc. I am SOOO very glad eBay finally got in gear and stopped this menace. He formerly sold fake WWII memorabilia under the username: pastworldantiques. He had multiple accounts, but eBay suspended those as well! This is a MAJOR victory for the WWII collecting community!
Hope everyone is off to a great new year!

I think eBay should employ some moderators on this forum to monitor the nazi memorabilia that is sold on its site, and also ban out-of-country sellers from listing WWII items of any kind. The sweatshops in India crank out more fake Nazi stuff all the time. I guess we, as collectors, are ultimately to blame because of the value we place on these items. However, we are doing something more than just collecting-- we are preserving history for future generations.
p.s. I also agree with you Ehrenkreutz. Hate groups should have no outlet to spew their filth.

That's a great idea if you want to sit in front of your computer all day long and work for eBay vetting stuff. Personally I don't, nor do I want to vet everything that dealers have to offer. There has to be a line in the sand that says the collector must take control and learn his hobby first and foremost be responsible for his collecting. The dealers don't care, eBay doesn't care, etc. You better learn to fend for yourself. You have other collectors and these forums, which have an archive of good and bad if we can ever get people to use the search engine and teach themselves, but most of the time it is somebody totally ignorant of these things... hey, it looks neat! or investment bankers who just want a quick answer.

I had been burnt many times early on in my collecting but after being introduced to the net and this forum I learnt very quickly and am still doing so. I won't buy an item unless I'm positive that it is ok thanks to many fine members and friends who have helped me in my education process.
As for Roger Honts...take Bob's advice and you shouldn't get burnt by fools like that.
Learn...LEARN...LEARN and when you think that you've learnt all that there is to know about collecting learn some more.

Bob and Mark couldn't have said it better. You MUST be educated about militaria collecting.
Roger once told me that fakes are getting better and better each day. Id and reference books are worth it! Make sure your library has them!!

But that is an entirely different matter DH..
Isn't it ??
I think of it as a speakeasy owned by a known crook where some gather for the drinks. The justification for hanging out is for each to come to terms with. That comes down to who your having drinks with. Good people, good times.
What is important is the knowlege that the speakeasy IS owned by a crook. If that is known by the patrons, then you get what you pay for and you have made your own decision to buy.
For each, that decision comes along with the baggage that is overlooked by everyone taking part. If it wasn't pushed to the side, filed away, they wouldn't be there.
Been there, done that...a few times
It is what it is. He must really get a kick out of that. He is a student of human nature. A very good one.
The puppeteer with his board and all his collectors. You just have to get past the baggage..
..and he knows that
A student of human nature. And his board is proof of his expertise. He can find a sucker in a heartbeat.
Don't underestimate him because believe me he's having a good laugh at this thread.

Actually it's more of a (treatable) mental illness. I think what we see with this is just the tip of the ice berg. If nothing else he is a very good case study.
