Unfortunately, the problem with relics in that condition is that eventually they desintegrate... limited shelf life.

Hello Asper, yes you're about relic's problems, but some relics have very long shelf life
I think this rusty helmet with good stays decal(which could be cleaned and will look more good than now) is more interesting than salty shells with only remains of decal which are in markets today not less than $2000. And in my opinion the worth of this relic is around $ 300-400/

what would you recomend / use to clean the helmet? to make it look better
im a bit scared of using chemicals , may destory the decal?
never cleaned a helmet before so i complete newbie on that area

I wouldn't do anything to it other than keep it in a very dry place and not let moisture access it.
