Grandad's Helmet out of the Cupboard.

Had this in the family a few years. I know nothing of its origin. It was given to my Grandad who was a pilot in the Polish division of the RAF. All opinions welcome. Thanks gentlemen.

The liner looks to be untampered with but I can't tell much about the paint from the pic shown.

          I agree, very tricky pictures.

My best guess with those pictures is that it is a reissue or repaint that has had the top coat removed from everywhere except the decals. Or maybe I am looking at it too 'negative' and it is the other way round. The lighter green is the top repainted coat, and someone has excavated through that for decals

Better pictures needed, but an interesting old hat !

          regards Mr Slug.

Thanks for all your comments gents! Unfortunately the helmet is back home in England, so I cannot take more pics yet. As far as I know, it was never fiddled with. Only when my Grandad got drunk and he used to wear it whilst playing the accordion and singing Polish songs. There is a name stamped on the inside rear near the makers mark and shell size. I think this one will have to wait till I return to Blighty. One thing's for sure - this helmet will always remain in my family as a reminder of a very brave man.
