    WSS paranoia

I don't like this one, but I'd like to have your opinions about it...

    Chris,
This decal looks ok to me.

What's the deal with the thicker border? It appears the border on this one is wider than most of the others. Is this particular decal different than the others?

        Ty,
The second pattern decals did have particularly thick black borders as compared with the first patterns. This example is the widest I have seen but...it still looks right to me.

          Thanks Darryl -

Isn't true that the ET and EF helmets had a particular SS decal that was slighly unique? That's what I was getting to?
I have never understood what the differences were?

            Ty,
Yes, I subscribe to the theory that certain decals were attributed to particular makers of shells. It's not conclusive but it certainly holds water in many if not most cases. And it's one more step up we still have on our ugly-brother fakers out there. For obvious reasons I won't expand on the subject.

In fact, this border bothered me a lot ; it gave me a very bad primary feeling. But I wasn't able to see what was finally wrong with the rest of the decal, even after an hour, six coffees and twelve cigarettes with this lid in hands... The ageing is never (well, rarely) a part of my decision about such decals, but here - in the hypothesis of a bad decal, of course - it would have been simply astounding.

I really wasn't able to decide, so I took a "bad" pic with my pocket camera ; I'll take better ones very soon and will post them.

Chris, didn't you just sell a nice one. Are you missing it already? I still have that flag for a SS helmet trade,
Make sure you save some helmets for the rest of us poor guys

I can't stop looking for WSS helmets, I turned myself in a human magnet for them. This one is the last that stuck on me, but "unfortunately" (if I can say ) one more M.42 !

You, in the New World, are not as "poor" in WSS helmets as I thought before being on this forum ! Not true, Darryl ? Can't you do something about my obsession (a nice M.40 ???) ?

Well, I won't be surprised if this one had to leave me too, one of these days... Who wants one ?

Don't get mad, it was just for the eye : all of these are far away in the past... and from me also.

Is this hypothesis really in direct relation with the decal this time, Darryl ???
                            Here are the markings :

As you can see, and as often on M.42s, the stamper didn't make his job in the right german manner...
All I can say, and it costed me 3/10 on each eye, is that 3 letters are here ; in the middle, the bottom of a "K" is hardly visible, but it's not a real surprise, not true ? And well, on the right it can be a "L", and the first letter don't look like a "H", so I guess you're right, once again. Not a real surprise either...

                              The liner's size is 59, in a 66 shell.
