    Chinstraps....real or repro?

    Hi Guys,
Please excuse my ignorance...I still haven't got the hang of identifying repro chinstraps.
Can anyone tell from the following pics if either of these examples are good?
    Thank you!
    Roy

        Hello Ty,
These are actually 2 different straps.
        No markings on either.
The second one shows good wear.

gotcha - like the second one better. First one may be a east german repro, but I'm not sure.

Ty, unfortunately I don't have better pics...these aren't my straps, but are available for purchase.
Chris, thanks very much for the link. I have seen this information before, but surmised that the differences between good and bad are so subtle, that personal inspection and comparison with a known original would be required to make a firm determination.
What confuses me a bit is that many members are able to readily identify 'bad' ones from photo's posted on the forum, and I can't figure out what the seemingly obvious giveaways are that everyone's noted on the pics.
For example, on this thread I posted recently, what exactly is the giveaway on the chinstrap?

Please pardon my evident lack of knowledge here....I've been out of the 'helmet' game for many years and have recently renewed my interest.
                Thanks kindly for your help.

                  Hi Roy,
just in case you have missed it ( it is buried quite far back now),here is a thread you may find of interest.
                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...threadid=18238

                  All the best,

                  Patrick.

PS. on the chinstrap which is on the camo helmet you posted, the shape of the buckle is the key which gives it away...check the thread i've posted, and things should be a little clearer

Roy, the hell of excuses for "lack of knowledge" !!!!
It really seems to be an insult here, or at least a serious defect...
Who among us came on this forum and learned absolutely nothing ????? And would such a site have sense/live without people in search of knowledge ??? (and who paid $20 membership ??? )

Patrick gave the main bad details about the chinstrap you evocated ; the color of the back of the leather is another, here. Smell is also a good indication, but I admit, a bit hard to judge it from pics.

In fact, "guts" is the first indication for me ; it's a bit like when you meet a girl for the first time . If you like (or dislike) her at first sight, what are the exact reasons ? The color and size of her eyes and hair ? The size of her two... ...legs ? The distance between her nose and eyebrows ? Between her ears and chin (under 1 inch for both, the best is to pass). Or her teeth, way of speaking, money, attitudes, humor ? An overall feeling is a thing, but finding what precisely causes it is not always an easy job to do. With both gals and militaria ; I think the best is to practise a lot, then you'll make very few mistakes !

And who never disliked someone at the very beginning, and falled in love short after ? And vise-versa ? It's rare, but it sometimes happens too...

Hmmm, I think I feel very romantic this evening : I surely need to find... a new DD M.35 !!!

Chris, I have no idea what you're talking about (other than the legs) but whatever you're drinking, I want some (sorry, couldn't resist......thanks Chris).
