Man that's a old war horse!
I kinda like it...improvised chinstrap (period). Looks like it was a tropical camo then painted dark green/grey when he left that climate...neat.

                Hi Chris and Perry,
this is one of my favorite's as it's been there, the colour of the over paint is depicted well in the photo's being a brown colour ,in close up can be seen a coverd decal on the left side,it has never and will never be cleaned in any way, name appears to be Scheer or somthing like?

I think it's Obergefreiter Scherer... Yes, I understand this one is among your favourites : since the factory, this M.35 surely saw a lot of tough things ; here, we use to say that "it smells powder" !

                    Hi,
                    Thanks it is Scherer,but it's a M40 not a 35,it's a pity he 's not famous of somthing.

Yes, M.40 here ; without untighting the drawstring did you try to see if some more markings were under the leather ?

                        Hi Chris.
That is not possible as the linner is very dry i did try lifting it for you be it is fragile.

                          Wow, so do nothing !
As you was so interested in finding new clues about this (already interesting) helmet, I thought you may perhaps find some here ; but in such conditions, the price to pay would be too high !
And as you said, yes, keep it untouched, they are much better this way...
