    Luftwaffe transitional

I thought this helmet might be of interest as it seems to have had three layers of paint in its lifetime and two decals. The decal pic is not too good but you can see parts of an early type Luftwaffe eagle showing through (Especially in the area of the shadow cast by the vent lug. The second pattern decal was painted around in a triangular fashion. The final layer of paint is of a rough texture and appears to contain fine wood chips. The liner band is steel.

These are rare, are there traces of a National shield?

The other side is overpainted with the thick rough paint Perry. I can't see any traces of a tricolour, but I would bet there is one underneath.

Here is another double eagle I used to own. Originally a Heer M40 single decal which later had a Kriegsmarine decal applied. You can just see parts of the silver Heer decal showing through.

Oh, I'm sure there's one there I was wondering if there was traces coming through the overpaint. Thanks for sharing..
              Neat overlapping decals there...

The paint in the decal area is undamaged so no trace is visible. Twenty years ago I would have had a dig at the paint to see if a decal was there, but now I leave them alone!

yes as mentioned previously it was often done back 20+ years ago by collectors and dealers alike..there were purists at this time as well that liked them untouched
