    Chris,
the colour of the helmet is approximatively the original one: it was NOT green at the beginning. LW helmets are light beige/tan coloured. But this is not the point.
Does anybody get infos about SS shields?

Yes Teka, you're right ; I only wanted to insist on the fact that colors encountered are often surpinsing, and that it wasn't a real problem. Here's one of my LW tan pith helmets, I have another one even lighter.

Green LW pith helmets also existed, but as you said, it's not the point. All I can add about SS shiels is this "J.F.S. 42" made one ; unfortunately, still no confirmation if it's a good one, sorry.

            Hi,
here's a photo of a ss tropenhiem in wear, imo the shields should be of the same construction as heer ones eg. 3 substansial pins, the pins on the shield shown by edelwiess appear to be thiner than normal shields.

              Very nice helmet, Merdock!

I've had the 3 different Heer types, a LW canvas, and a KM. I've
never had an SS one. I've seen them on Ebay occassionally but...

Has anyone here ever seen one with "Made in Germany" stamped
on the back of the sweatband in english? The felt Heer I had did. It was definitely right. Must've been stamped for export after the war.

                SS tropenhelm

                SS-tropical pit helmets did exist.

Alhough the the one that is posted here has IMO(but pretty sure)copy shields applied to it.
Original SS-shields are very rare , but totally different from the one showed here.

Brian those with "made in Germany" are out there and at one time plentiful. They were unissued stock and their ads can be seen in some old comic books here in the U.S.. They were sold without the shields. This was in the 50's-60's..The one's with made in Germany are those..

Pieter, could you post some good pics of real WSS pith helmet's shields ? Would be interesting to have some reference about them...

OK, I take it that these are very rare. Chris, the back of your shield looks nothing like any of the ones I have at my place. But all mine are early ones... On en reparlera.

SS sun helmets with SS shields did exist, and I think I have seen several period photos of them worn somewhere.

In any case, I have a friend with an authentic SS sunhelmet which came directly from the US vet. that brought it back. It was stored in the veteran's attic for many years and has some stain damage from a bird roosting over it. I will try to get photos from him and post them here.

Of course they did. Yes, it will be very interesting to see, thanks. JL, the shield I posted is not mine, it is one that was debated in another forum...

The conclusion of the debate was :

It seems that too few people has info / good reference items about this very point...

John is going to try and produce a vet aquired piece to post. I think it will be a very good reference piece coming from one of the most desirable sources. I wouldn't dismiss this thread just yet...
