    SS tropenhiem

    Hi,
here's another tropenhiem the helmet came from a collection approx 10 years ago ,it appears never to have had any other badges on,no extra holes .the shield construction is just like the heer shields having pins on
[no the screws and nuts as seen on most repro's ]
does any body have any input the focus being on the shields.
    All the best merdock

                      Hello
To respond to Jean-Loup, such helmets might have been worn in Corsica (Sturmbrigade later 16. SS Gre. Div. "RFSS") and/or in Greece (4. SS Polizei-Div.).
Another tropical helmets beraing the SS device was also displayed in De Filippi pioneer book entitled "Les Coiffures Militaires du IIIème Reich" (French text and published at the very beginning of the 80s). At that time, the author wondered himself about authenticity of SS metal schields.
From my side, I have not enough knowledge to discuss its validity.
                      Thanks for sharing tough.
                      Regards
                      Denis

                          Hi,
looks like an unissued LW DAK tropenhelm. The Waffen-SS used LW helmets without insignia, and I think in this case the insignias are post-war applied.
If SS-Tropen shields exist, it's a good question.
Some authors have photographs of W-SS soldiers wearing Tropenhelme with SS shields. Can anybody post a scan?
This don't help a lot, sorry...

A doubt can always remain on the metal shields, of course. But I have more serious concerns when they are applied on a felt model ! I'm conviced such helmets existed, and the light color here is normal : with the sun, all german fabrics turned to white : field caps, shirts, trousers, etc... Thus, a lot of different colors can be encountered between the new original one (tan or green) and the faded one (white).

PS : JL always want to know ALL about each item !
