I think some one needs an aspirin in a while

The only pith helmet I have is a Luftwaffe helmet. On the shield, there are little sandgraines left They are stuck in de edges of the shield.
Thé proof that it realy has been in Africa

Is there any one else who has such sandgraines on the shields of the pith helmet?

Nice pith helmets by the way!!!!!
        Greetings
        Dennis

In fact, your helmet comes indirectly from me Den, and I simply went a couple of times to the beach with it... Very efficient helmet, you can trust me (sorry for the little pickles bits still in the liner).

Warning - Warning : the author of this reply intended to make a joke. This must not be taken at the first degree ; he assures he never went to the beach with a Heer pith helmet, neither this one, nor another.
It was only with a M.43 tropical cap, and it was a copy.

Den, here's a friend's "tropical" LW helmet, and in this one, the shell is still covered with sand dust (fech-fech, as we call it here). He never cleaned it, of course, but I'm afraid some others would have...

            Hi

I have questions about the KM shield. This helmet is on the web as KM. The Adler is differet as the one posted in this lid.

Realy Edelweiss, I think no real collectors would go to beaches with authentic pith helmets. I didnt think you were so imature. Tu me déçoit beaucoup!

Juan, there should be no raised edge around the shields for them to be considered true Kriegsmarine. Therefore, I would say no. Maybe a toned Heer set. But, definitely not KM.

                  Désolé, JL.
Juan, I already saw this one, it didn't please me much ; maybe bad fake insignas...
                  I know one still on the e-stand : it's not in a 100 % perfect state but 100 % genuine and... french made !

One of the problems as a collector is that we are as good as our reference books. I am including a picture from German helmets by Goodapple amd Weinand 1981that clearly shows in my opinion a KM with borders. In the book headger of Hitlers Germany by Halcomb and Wilhelm they show the one without the borders.
I will not use that reference anymore
                    thanks

Juan, it's your mind that must be like your "reference books" : open as often as possible. What about if you got such a helmet right out from the woodwork ? Would you throw it away ?
Keep in mind that all german items worn at that time were not "textbook" ones ; it's a good thing to have doubts about such a helmet and to ask questions to yourself, but not a good reason to say definitely "this one is a bad one", and then "not use that reference anymore".

Even if many reference books show obviouses fakes !

                        Touché

I may have been a little frustrated yesterday. If I see a helmet like that I will tell the seller what is wrong with the helmet and the decals, but if the price is right and I feel the helmet may be real I will take the risk.
Although that was how I got my luftwaffe general cap and it was a fake. I guess we collectors are a little like gamblers as we need sometimes to take risks

                        Juan

PS I will keep the book around

It has to be said that most of us are sometimes a bit masochist too...

Till it finally comes of fashion to be !
