M-40 modified Luftwaffe helmet

Hi

This is a modified luftwaffe helmet. It was used for bombers aircrew. It is also called KG53. A similar helmet is in page 342-343 at Ludwig Baer.
This is a M-40 but looks like M-35 are more common. An outward bulge was pressed into each side so that headphones could be worn.

It is splashed with oil as you can see in this view. It has also oil in the outside.
I have learn here that I should not clean it.

Hmm, the oil splashes were there before the inside pads, and the ear buldges dont look like they were made by a prussian craftman. The painting on the front also looks very suspicius. Were does this one come from?
Any other opinions?
Oh yeah, I forgot, the chinstraps are horrible!

I looked under some areas under the pads that are slighly loose and did not see any oil.

Juan, some very recent posts (either today or yesterday) were made in this forum regarding thuringenmilitaria. From what I recall, they are not very positive.

Hi

I would like to thank the members of the forum for the input about this helmet. I talked with the seller and he agreed to take it back. I sent it today.
In his defense these helmets are rare and this was the first that he had. He did not think that people will be making fakes, but will take the helmet back. I did not think so either but I saw another one in e bay about a month ago.
