What is everyone's opinion on this one.

    Hi, Ty

The decals bother me a little, especially the party shield ; the helmet paint too. The chicken wire seems artificially aged, and does not match well the overall near mint condition of the helmet. I don't like this one very much, sorry...

The wire was made last year, aged over the winter and put on last week.

I thought this would be interesting. I notice the red rust in the twist of the wire. Not consistent with wear on the shell. I have some problems with the decals too. This one is one ebay, I like the effort on this one. It will fool some people. moremad

The "efforts on this one" are not that great, Ty : I didn't fall in the trap...
Unfortunately, many others are much more dangerous out there.

Clearly the wire is bogus. I think I see some pitting under the helmet paint, a sign that it has been repainted.

                  Ty, Willi, Chris, et. al,
Keep in mind also that while the army and luftwaffe used chicken wire on helmets extensively, the SS and the police did not. We all know how rare an SS chicken wire is, I know of one for sure, maybe one or two more. I believe the same thing goes for police helmets, I don't remember ever seeing one with real chicken wire. And I guy in Florida tried to convince me he had a real one 12 years ago. So bogus ones now have age.

The moral of the story is that when offered such a rare and unusual piece, your level of skepticism should rise accordingly.

I am definately not an expert on wired helmets, but what immediately struck me about this one is that there isn't a speck of dust or patina under any part of the wire, including where the wire is touching the helmet. I know one can clean much of that off, but this one is just too clean.

That's Max Zelensky's work(MAXUTAZ). From Latvia. Got one at
home. I use it for a potato chip bowl on Friday nights. As it is
passed around the greasy hand massaging of the wire cage begins to make it look original.

                          Police Helmet

How did you age the wire? I would like to make some for a helmet I recently repainted and was unable to find wire and the aging techniques to do it.

The most efficient technique known to date is to put the wire on the helmet and to wait for 50 - 60 years...

                              Thanks...I never thought of that

But seriously there has to be a way to do it. I would like to add it to my recently repainted helmet for display.
                              Thanks!
