Direct from the battlefield (2) - well almost!

This is the second helmet that I bought from my late veteran friend. A correction to my other posting, I met him in 1989 and he passed away in 1998. I have gone through my file of our letters and though I found the mention of the Helmet I previously posted, can not locate the details of this one, other than the price I paid for it. Looking at the various current postings it seems a real minefield being a collector of German Helmets with faked decals and reproductions. I do have a few other Helmets, but nothing to compare to these two from my veteran friend. Regards, Clive.

I am no decal expert, but that one looks good to me and the provenance could not get better.

having said that......The helmet is an absolute stunner. They don't get any better than this. Fantastic M40, in great condition with a named liner as well.
To top it all, complete with a 'mild camo'. Everything looks dead right to me !

Usually stuff like this only surfaces in the States, you are a very lucky collector !

                  Regards Mr Slug...........................P. S. wanna sell ?

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

                      What does this marking mean ? R 900 ? And where it's located ?
Nice decal anyway , but why cammo job painted inside too ? Any thoughts ?
                      regards, Sergey

Sturm 74/Sergey, I noticed that too.

I Just figured that not all Adolf's men were that sharp.

                          Regards Mr Slug.

I wish that I could add to my posting, but I have no other information. The R900 stamp is inside the helmet above the rim, located where it should be I think. As for the cammo, I have no comment to make, why it should be inside as well I do not know. Thankfully I do not collect German items, though have picked up a few pieces over the years. The Helmet is now put away, one day it will be sold, along with other things, but not today. regards, Clive.

A closer look at the location of the R900 stamping. It is inside the helmet but at the back and not the side. I am sorry I missed your point Segey. The position of this stamping is possibly unusual, I certainly do not know, but guess someone will. Regards, Clive.
