Brian, you are right ! It was early in the morning when I got the pics, then had to resize and post them. At that time, my mind wasn't very clear I'm afraid...
So, I meant that this helmet was originally a DD LW M.35 ; OK ? After that, things are becoming more complex ; IMO, it was reissued to a Polizei fighting unit, which could explain the camo, the rank and the shield decal mark on the left side. Apparently, KSM has the same opinion.

But I wasn't aware that Oberwachtmeister was a rank in the "artillery, cavalry or flak units" ; anyone could confirm that ? Kai ?

I was thinking of a M35, reissued in the war.. Both decals overpainted and a war-replaced chinstrap added when overpainted. Liner must be replaced also, looking at the date (stamp) in the linerband and the D-ring wich has round edges.

Lucas I think that the helmet was first used by a wehrmacht soldier and then later in war ( round 1943/ 1944 ) was overpainted and issued to a LW soldier. That explains the shield on the left side.

The camo looks to me to a meditteranian camo.

Let's see what te rest thinks!

That is correct WL-Flak-Artillerie, WH-Artillerie and WH-Kavallerie NCO had the ranks of Wachtmeister and Oberwachtmeister- most famous of those probably Oberwachtmeister Hugo Primozic, famous Sturmgeschütz Ace of StuG. Abt. 667- RK with Oak leafs and X

          Danke sehr, mein Herr.
So, all is to know if there's a feldgrau parade paint under the blue LW one... Who said hyeroglyphs were difficult to decipher ?

            Scho recht, Chris

Anyway- i dont belive this helmets last unit was a LW unit- flak with camo helmets? how would they get the armour colours- and why would they do it- does anyone know about or has seen pics of something like that? im still with the fighting police unit theory...
they had access to the paint from nearby armour units and had use for camouflage... and the rank and decals fit also..

Andy is on vacation so his opinion will have to wait till he gets back..
M35 reissue that looks to be reissued from Luftwaffe stocks. I lean more toward reissued to the Polizei, for combat. It could be reissued to the Heer but it's usually the Heer that surplus stocks are drawn from, not the other way around.

I have learned in this forum that taking the liner out of the helmet to see information will decrease the value of the helmet. Please do not take the liner off your helmets unless you do not care about resale value.

                        thanks
