Come On ! Nobody has any ideas about this helmet. Why add the fixed loops?
Is this helmet crap or is it worth putting on e-stand?

Can you post a closeup of one of the bales? Thanks, Ron. Also could they have been meant to be used to secure the helmet on let's say a pack or saddle?

Alex, I think it is far from being a crap helmet. To me the bales look origional to the helmet even if reminiscent of US M-1 fixed bails.

                Austrian helmet

                Alex

I have a helmet like yours, and it is an Austrian shell as well. I've seen a few others. I understand these bales were added as an experiment during the 1930's, but one that did not work out and was never done in any large numbers. The purpose was to make it easier to strap it to the back pack while marching, I believe. I think it is a nice variation, but it does not really add anything to the value of the helmet.

                Regards,
                Terry
