One day I went an antique shop in Florida about 8 years ago. I saw the cap . The owner told me it was from a German officer. He did not know the rank. He told me the cap came with a sword. I did not ask for the sword ( I regret that now because if it was an Army sword I may have walk out). I got the cap for 175 dollars after some bargaining.
After more research I now realized that was not good.
I was impressed by
1. Wool quality
2. Lining feels like silk
3. The nice patina of the insignia
4. The eagle stitches do not go across the lining
5. It is unmarked, as I would think that a fake would have the name EREL all over the place.
6. The price as I would think that somebody that will go to all that trouble will ask a premium price.
In this forum we are here to learn so I hope that somebody will learn from my mistake.
Thanks
Juan
