    Whitewash helmet

This is the helmet that I told Perry I would post on his thread, what collectors used to do. Example, liberating decals, changing liners, etc. This particular one had it's decal exposed before I bought it. I did not get a chance to take pictures earlier and to put it on that particular thread. It is already listed on the second page, so I thought I would start a new post. Thanks, DEL

The inside of the liner is engraved with the markings D.S.P. in 2 places. Also there is a faint scratch mark in the liner which is 585. The shell is marked ET64.

Thanks for sharing Del, where did you get the helmet if I might ask?

Thanks Perry for your reply. After 68 viewings I thought surely I would get some positive and/or negative opinions. I only posted it to show the viewers what you were talking about when you said that sometimes the eagles were uncovered. I'm sure it is 100% original but would like to hear what you think of it, Perry. Thanks, DEL

Interesting helmet, I'm not sure I would consider that whitewash but white painted. I haven't seen too many white painted camo'ed helmets. The liner looks good interesting markings in the leather.

Ok Del since you want my opiniion here it goes..

If this was offered to me I would'nt consider it. I don't like the wear of the white paint, the way the decal looks. This in relation to the inside concerns me as well.
Sorry my opinion is not more favorable..

What I was getting to before is in my opinion this is a post war painted helmet with the paint removed to get to the decal, rather than a winter white-washed period helmet.
It would be interesting to know if it is a double decal under the white, probably not based on the liner.

Did German firemen not use the WW2 helmets painted white after the war? Perhaps this is one of them.

I'm not sure on that Bernie (It could have been), I don't study into much of postwar reissued German helmets. I know the post-war Polizei used alot of these, but not white..it would look to have had a newer liner added if reissued again, the outside and inside wear is dramaticly different..
