Your friend's helmet looks to be an original helmet and liner, most likely a barn find as suggested. I do not believe the remnants of Feldherrnhalle decals are original however. The remnants of the FH decals seem too bright and shiny, compared to the condition of the rest of the helmet. Also, I've never seen a FH helmet with a Heer helmet as the base helmet. It should be on a Luft helmet, repainted brown, to my knowledge. I suspect someone added fake FH decals at some point, then scraped the decals off again, leaving only little bits of the decals. My opinion anyway.

Hello Terry...many thanks for your post....I understand your concerns with the decal but, having had this helmet in my hands, I have to specify some points that are not so clear from the close up of the helmet......

1) the heer decal is the last decal apllied on the shell (and over the last grey paint)....might it be a reissuded heer?

2) the feldherrn. decal is under the last grey paint applied on.....

3) this helmet was found in Austria and the previous owner thought the helmet was, perhaps, an ex fireman helmet (due the red decal under the paint) ...

Absolutely a nice find ground helmet but right decal absolutely new applied, not era original!
