    Helmet Help

Please tell me what you think about this Helmet? I inherited some stuff a few years back and I dont know a whole lot about any of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just curious to know what it is and how much it might be worth?

The other stuff looks promising though not my area. Looks like the collector wanted a neat looking helmet to go along with the rest.

Looks like a M40 shell from the photo, National shield is a reproduction applied to the wrong side. It looks neat. I think that is all he was looking for.

The helmet's only worth a couple hundred bucks or so. Repainted and fake decals all the way around. If it was a true triple decal SS M40, you could name your price

Ok thats what I was afraid of....I wonder if it would be better to leave it like that or strip the decals? anyone have a pic of what it would have originally looked like? ...and thanks for the help

It's up to you. Value is low, so you could strip it and try for a more original look instead of a fantasy piece.

I think all three decals on your helmet are listed on this link. 1970s repro decals out of Japan

Paint, decals, and name in the skirt are all added post war. The liner is an original which has a slight red tone to it. It may have been used by Norway post war, hard to tell. In any case, you can make it whatever you like, as its been played with post war.

Love the totenkopf on the front of the helmet, haha.

Agreed, do with it as you please. At least the shell is good. The liner is acceptable.

Is it possible for you to provide us with some outdoor pictures taken in daylight of the helmet? Would like to see some better pictures of the paint

                          Cheers

That helmet looks too beauty to be original Of course the shell was repainted and decals are copy. As for the liner, I'm not sure about Norwegian, but it possible (in Norwegian reedition the skins should be more burgundy /dark brown/ and the left side of it should be the same) - it would be useful to check the shape of pins fastening the ring with the liner (in German wersion pins have flat head, in Norwegian convex).

How can a helmet be too beautiful to be original? Very nice and beautiful helmets exist and some in mint condition and they are not fake just in good shape.

I´m not saying this is the case here not at all but from the pictures on my screen it is hard to determine if the paint is original or not and properly not original but some times original helmets has been equipped with repro decals

The liner looks OK but looks like it has been treated with oil or something like that.

Remember a flash from a camera can make a thing appear different from what it actually is
