    more ebay idiocy

Just in case anybody reading this is guilty of the following crime... smack yourself as hard as you can in the face as a personal favor to me. Thank you.

The crime: a nice, REAL German lid comes on ebay. It's a 6 day auction. MORONS are getting in bidding wars with each other 2 f'ing hours into the auction!!! The price is over $1,000 and it just started!

PEOPLE!! If you bid it up that high at the start, you have destroyed any chance of getting it for a good price at the end! Don't blow your load on the first day! This is ebay 101!

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhhh!

    Thank you - Mike

    Hello
The reasons this is happening is really simple , before , bidder would start slowly then some mother fu**er would report the helmet to ebay , just so that same SOB can make an offer outside ebay and get the helmet for a steal , now this time is over , a good helmet shows up and right away the price jump to heaven , for the sole purpose that , if it is canceled by ebay , the same SOB won't be able to get it for $300 , the seller seeing the high price , will of course , want that price an nothing else.
I blame all the pieces of crap that used to report helmet to ebay.
    Regards
    P-Y

This theory holds some water, but don't forget that German stuff doesn't have to be reported... ebay will pull it if they want. They are real bastards.

Yeah, the whole how much to bid and when has been discussed a number of times....

Sorry to kick a dead horse Hank, but it makes me crazy. Bidding high at the start screws over us real collectors who have NORMAL people incomes. If people want to pay top dollar for these things EVERYWHERE in the universe... this is the way to make sure that happens.

          Aaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh!

Look, I quit ebay( as an SS paper collector) about 2 years ago, cuz of the sneaky things going on . other than 2 or 3 peeks since,I dont miss it at all--my stress and anger level has greatly subsided . Quit ebay for your health!

I'd like to give it up but every once and awhile I pull a gem of a lid off of there for 25% of the market price. Just pick and choose your battles, much like the forums. Regards, Chris

I love selling on eBay. My only problem is most of my sales are going overseas and the new postal rates are driving the buyers crazy. Our postal system has priced the little guy out of the bidding wars.

I agree, and it is not just Helmets.....take this situation,

I have an ex U.S.M.C. Humvee and I need a few parts. Obviously the parts are not available from my local car dealership ! there are a few parts available in private hands, but they are mostly in the states and mostly on ebay.

This week I saw a seat belt that I needed on ebay, I asked about shipping and was told $40, The seat belt made $15, that is $55. When it gets here UK govt slaps on £ 25 ($50) duty. total to me, over a hundred bucks.

The poor guy that sold it has ebay and paypal fees to swallow.

Nett result, I pay out over a $100, seller winds up with +or- $10.

That cant work !...............Regards Mr Slug.

'FYI... the bidders ARE forum members!'

Why do you think I posted it here for you all to see?

You guys bid stuff up to insane levels for no reason. Once the auction ends, the seller will sell it to whomever he wants... not the highest bidder on the cancelled auction. You gain NOTHING other than artificially raising the price for the bidding war that happens AFTER the auction is closed. A poorly thought out strategy at best.

Side note: how can you report an item while bidding on it?? I have not heard of this one before. You'd think ebay would see what you are up to and destroy you with their death ray...

You dont have to be bidding.

The solution is simple, request better/more pictures from the seller, this way you get direct email contact. Then report the item. Soon as ebay pull the plug on it, you contact the seller and ask him "why has that dissapeared ?" how much do you need to sell it to me ?

                            regards Mr Slug.
