I've been thinking about that really nice SS helmet being discussed recently, the one where everybody agrees that a painted over party decal should not be uncovered.
While I agree that it is always better to have untouched items, it got me thinking about our value system.
What is actually more valuable, in terms of hard dollars, a helmet with an original coat of paint that obscures an original SS decal (we know it's SS despite being covered in this example), or the same helmet with the SS decal carefully exposed?
I suspect some of you idealists will say that the untouched helmet is more valuable, but I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't pay more for the covered decal.
This is just talk, no specific helmets in mind. I just get the feeling that we say one thing, but our wallet says something else.
