the only real things are the shell and the liner band.
the liner still has the smear marks where someone has tried to age it

Thank God this is a fake helmet, as otherwise Brad would have completely ruined it by taking it appart. Tell him never to take appart a helmet like that again if he wants the helmet to be worth anything.

The shell and liner band look good, but the leather and cao pint are fake, as well as the eagle I would suspect.

I would say only the shell is an original. Looks to be an hkp / SE shell maker. The paint, ageing, decal, liner leather, drawstring, aluminum leather liner brads, inner band, and maybe the outer band as well are all modern reproductions. With all that repo stuff, I would bet the liner rivets are repo too.The inner band should be galvanized. If the outer band is marked B&C limanstadt 1943, its most likely a repo, as the inner band looks like the ones found with that outer band. People age these band pretty well these days, and can almost make them pass.

                Hi Guys, Brad here,
I am actually a new member here and that is why I got Randy to post the pictures as I am still not able to post.
This helmet is is my first and is now in three posts:

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=236773

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=231211

                and now this one.
It sounds like a typical story of some new guy buying a helmet off EB** who was sold some thing that was told to be original but turned out to be a fake.
Thank goodness the shell appears to be the real thing, but what is it worth now with paint camo'ed all over it. The liner is definitley 'galvanised' metal with no other markings on it except for the ones in the picture and it has like a very tough spring steel as the inner/support ring. Dont worry I could not have damaged the liner ring whilst removing it even if I tryed. Could this be the real thing? I have a couple of "yes' and a 'no'. I would love to know please.
Please also know I would never remove a liner from a helmet I even thought was all the real thing. The tiny liner brads look brand spanking new and roughly made but I was still very careful to remove them, the three main rivits had been played with before and are quite soft to bend, once again no damage done.
The slotted washers for the three main rivits are of a heavier material and feel solid and of quality and could quite possibly be real.
The leather liner, well even I knew straight away it was fake.

I have said before that I will be keeping this helmet. I am in negotiation with the seller for some compensation for the liner and being misinformed (that is politly said) after being told it was faked in the other thread and reading about the problems with this EB** seller I decided to take it apart and get opinion on it as a learning exercise. I know how most here feel about even wiping helmets down with a damp cloth but did not think I would be doing any thing wrong to such a messed with helmet. Like I have said too I did not damage any thing so it will go back together fine.
SO,,,, Is my liner band the real deal?????????
I will get Randy or some one else to post some more pictures if any one needs them to make a decission.
IF,,, it is ok, then where is the best place to aquire a good quality leather liner for it to give it some sort of dignity.
Thanks Gentlemen, and I will post some pictures of the three main liner rivits and washers that I think are good ones.

                Brad

Personally, I would not waste a good liner on this shell. If you put the two together it will still not be 'the real deal'

A good original liner is harder to find than a shell.

My guess is that shell is re-painted anyway, so it is spoiled. It might just as well have the liner you took out put back in. And it can be a 'representative' piece.

just my tuppence worth, good luck with your next purchase. Maybe try the e stand on here, but be sure to take plenty of 'spending ammo' !

Ebay helmet buying really is for the highly experienced guys with loads of knowledge, a gambleing addiction, huge gonads, large pockets, a nose for these things, and lots of luck.

                  Regards Mr Slug

                    Im hearing you Mr Slug,
My main concern now is determining if the liner is a good one or not so I can relay that to the seller and maybe get some compo if it is no good.

                      Thanks Brad,

The easiest way to determine if that liner is a fake, ( and it is for sure ) is the sweat band sewn into the inside, none of the repro liners I have seen have the correct felt band. repros are usually a thin off white coloured synthetic material. Some are multi coloured compressed wool, and others are dark grey wool on a woven backing.

Real ones are light grey, light or dark brown felt made from animal fur based felt. Often several types of animal hair can be seen in the material, particularly on later manufactured ones.........hope this helps.

                      Regards Mr Slug.

                        Sorry Mr Slug,
yes I know the liner is of no value, I should have said "liner band". Is the liner band ok? I have two "yeses' and one "no"

                          Hi Brad,

The liner outer band is the only componant I am not 100% sure about.

I am however, 90% in favour of it being Fake. The chinstrap loops are way too 'rounded' on the corners for my likeing. Original ones tend to have very tight bends on the corners and have a more 'square' appearance.

Hope this helps, regards Mr Slug.
