    Strainge helmets I don't like.

    Hi,

Just wanted to show these. Don't think they are original. But what are they?

              Hi Nick,

I can only speak for the first helmet I'm afraid. I have seen these in the past. I think that it's a vet bring back. A "souvenier" if you prefer. I have talked to vets that brought these home and then decorated them like this. The fellow probably brought this piece back and decided to paint it with the town and date with which he acquired it. I have seen others with names of several towns or even countries on them. It's a pity that an original helmet had to "die" for it but I think that these are great in their own right.

I'm sure some of the other fellows will chime in with excellent info on the other two.

              Ciao,
              Greg

                Damn, Nick...

...you have quite a little cottage industry going there don't you? Just kidding!

The first one , I believe, is a genuine piece of 'soldier art'. Simply
a souvenir helmet that a vet took and repainted as a memento
of his wartime experience. Some of these can get pretty elaborate
and quite artistic. They are collectible in their own right and should
be enjoyed for their historical perspective.

The second one, I believe, is an out and out fake for a variety of
reasons. Still, better photos would help.

Are the last two pics the same helmet? I believe another example of soldier art. Probably a Navy vet. Quite a lot of time and detail spent on the anchor.

                  Hi Nick,

The first - post war painted and decorated as Brian said, probably the vet.

Second, Bad SS fake, really nothing looks good about this one.

Third, A very rare KM helmet Just kidding
