    ww1 camo

    Hi,
thought i'd share my latest helmet had it a couple of months but have been rather busy,
this helmet i know looks rather recent but the lady i got it from remembers it when she was a child her father had it hung in the porch as a plant pot and it was brought back by her grandfather in the condition seen the leather has gone but the band is still there and in the hand it can be seen that the camo is original on top of a dark green .

could be wrong but i don't like the lack of wear around the brim and skirt of the helmet, colours are too vibrant for a 90 year old helmet.the story doesn't add up.if this was used as a flower pot this means water which means rust of which i can't see any.ive had and seen a few ww1 camo's and this doesn't look right to me

as soon as I saw the paint job I just unfortunately didnt like what I saw. I definitely feel this paint isnt original. its too bright and with no real wear at all. sorry, I just cant feel its original paint. Glenn

wait! i think i recognize this... yes! yes! my son brought it home once from a paint by numbers lesson he had at school!

sorry, i couldn't resist. when i see such fresh colors on a 90 year old combat item i have to revert to comedy.

                        Hi,
I expected the comments received due to the condition ,agree that it has little or indeed no wear possibly never worn it's not a repaint hold it in the hand and you can see the original base paint that has been camoed if you were to see the air vents in person you would see were the water has run out of them ,the remains of the rotted leather are still there. the paint is obviously not new in person as the ageing/dis-colourising of it can be clearly seen.

I know it could never be accepted on photo evidence

I don't know what the other guys making negitive comments collect but I collect WWI German Steel helmets and the paint on this one looks fine. I'd call it original any day and the paint work looks exactly like the work on my original helmets. You can see good things in the black paint lines as well as the darker panal colors. Very hard if not impossible to duplicate that kinda aging. Yes it's brite for a WWI camo but they do exist in such condition.

The only aritst I know of who can fake them like that is the Ebay seller Steelhelmet.

I've handled quite a few camo's, and I am in agreement with earlier replies - this is definately a re-paint.
Considerable weathering to inside, but virtually none to outside??
I also think colours are too vibrant.

Sorry but I don't like the look of it.

I used to get into WWI stuff alot but sold off all of it to fund My WWII Heer infantry man. I do admit the way it is painted is done very well as far as technique goes but from all the examples Ive seen in person and the helmet I used to own (which was in very nice shape for its age) they just dont compare to this as far as "brightness" or vibrance of colors. not exactly what you want poping out of a trench. subdued colors blend in much better with natures colors. (mud/earth) Im sticking with my first impression but as long as your happy with it thats truely all that counts. you might want to throw this in the Imperial section though if you havent already. Im sure theres many there that will give their thoughts. Glenn
