M40 Camo Helmet With GI Art

Here is a pretty nice M40 Camo Helmet with GI Art.

Do you think that the GI Art adds to the value, or diminishes the value?

hi Ron,i like gi art work on german helmets, but some collectors dont.
some pots that have really nice art work, while some are a bit less eye catching.
is it the light in the pics,or does the party shield look a bit bright in colour.
i think theres a decal under the party shied, but i could be wrong.
either way,its a nice old pot.
                          regards,norman.
ps,i used to own the one on Bob iqbals site, COLLECTORTOCOLLECTOR
                          MILITARIA.COM
i got it from ebay a few years back, and sold it with some other pots to bob,im amazed that it aint sold yet, cause its as cheap as chips, and totally real.

I think soldier art adds to the appeal of a helmet and therefore, in my opinion, the value. In the example posted, the lettering is really impressive and indicative of the style of the times and the training the soldier might have had pre-war. Hand lettering is becoming a lost art as there aren't too many sign painters left in the modern market place.

Having said that, the lettering inside the rim is a little disappointing. The color is ... identical ... to the G.I. added script and it seems more common that the German soldier is the one with the better looking script, when it comes to labeling his helmet. Not so in this case.
