Soliciting opinions on this Paratrooper helmet

I hate to ask the question because I'm affraid of what the outcome may be but I have to ask all the same...is this an original war time camo helmet or some put together POS? Go ahead, I can take it. I have had this in my position for some time and sold alot of good original "stuff" at the last Drawbridge show to finish paying for it.
This is a three color camo painted helmet with what looks to be the original gray/green paint to the under side. There is no trace of a decal under the camo paint. The liner looks to be nice and supple with moderate amount of wear and sweat staining to it. Nice markings stamped on the rear of the liner to a Baumuster Heisier Berlin C2 and the size of the shell 68 and liner 57. Gray leather chin strap is soft with moderate wear to it and a couple of rust spots where the snaps had sat. The buckle also has rust forming to it. The steel shell is stamped ET68 on the left side close to the front of the strap and the lot/batch number is 3133, stamped on the inside back of the shell. Everything looks to be correct to the piece but I am having doubts the more that I get involved with reading opinions from the many forum site here. I don't know where to turn for answers in my home town so I'll ask the question here. Thanks for your opinions
If anyone needs to see different pics tell me what you need and I will post them...Rob.

Rob, sadly I have to agree with what has already been said, this is not a good one. Tim.

I need to ask what makes this bad? Does anyone have one I can compair mine to? After spending about $5500.00 at a Feb. show I have to know what makes it bad. I will copy all this information and hope that person will be there in 2008 so I can hopefuly get a refund. Thanks...Rob aka Mr. Junk Collector

I must agree with the gentlement that posted before. The chinstraps are clearly fake. The liner is clearly fake. The shell I am not 100% certain, but given the status of the chinstraps and liner, I would definitely ask for my money back ASAP, especially when you consider that you have spent a very significant amount of money. For that amount, you should get something that will allow you to sleep peacefully at night, like for example, Andy's excellent example with the .45 cal. impact. I like that one a lot. Look at original examples in this site and, hopefully, you will be able to pick out the "artificialness" of yours. It comes from looking at originals over and over again.

Walter, the shell is fake too. Look at the photo on post #6. Not a Czech fake either, they are much better than this POS.

I would suggest not waiting to return this thing. In my opinion the guy knew it was fake as he could have sold it for more $$ by selling it to some of the dealers who were probably present at the show.

I have seen this helmet somewhere before. Just can't recall it right now....

Tough break sure, but with all the original helmets published in books and on the internet, I don't understand how this still happens.

Ouch! $5500 is a lot of dosh to fork out on something you dont know about . The dealer must be a real poker face guy to keep a straight face whilst saying "That will be $5500 please " as the others say dont wait ring him up today and ask him for a refund NOW .Good luck .Rob

Ouch, you are absolutely right, I missed pictures 5 and 6. I should get a "PWI" for posting after hanging out at my neighborhood bar (PWI- posting while intoxicated). I know I was over the State's legal limit for PWIs

If the guy is a dealer in the states tell him ( that is if he isn't willing to give refund ) your gona blow the whistle on him here. Some say take it on the chin and learn from it. You will do that regardless but the scum who sale fakes and know it need shot. Stealing is stealing and i aint politicly correct. (nor can I spell ) but it''s bs a worthless pos can do this and get away with it. Good luck and to be fare maybe the guy didnt know it was a fake but a dealer should know his stuff to sell items of that amount.
