    Irish Model 1926 Helmet

Here for your review and comments is a Model 1927 Irish Free State Helmet.

It is said that there were only 10,000 of these helmets produced by Vickers, Ltd on British controlled German M16 Helmet machinery for the Irish Army.

They were in use by the Irish Military from 1927 until 1939 when they were replaced by the standard British "Tommy" helmet.

The remaining helmets were then turned over to the Civil Authorities and painted white.

    Hope you like it.

                            Hi Ron,

Nice example. Most of these are quite dented and miss-shapen due to the low grade of steel. Here's a period photo of a group of the lads wearing these Vickers helmets. Note the jaunty tilt that some of them have!

Nicest liner i have ever seen on one of these helmets and also rare to see original chinstrap. It is crying out for a helmet badge. Again a superb helmet Ron. Cheers Jack
