Hi,
I'm considering puchasing an M42 Polizei combat helmet to group with my collection of SS Polizei insignia and accoutrements. However, before I make such an investment, I would like to know if the SS Polizei Division actually wore the police combat helmet after 1942. I read in one book (in a caption to a picture of the SS Polizei Division wearing the M35) that they wore the M35 Police Combat Helmet until 1942, when they became a named SS division.
So, does this simply mean that the SS Polizei wore the Police M35 helmet until 1942, and then continued wearing the newer M42 Police helmet after that was produced. Or, does this mean that the SS Polizei wore the M35 until 1942, and then after becoming a named division began wearing the regular SS helmet with the SS runes? If that is the case, I would then assume that only the non-SS police combat units continued wearing the M42.
Some of these regulations and changes just get a little confusing sometimes, and in this case I just can't seem to find the answer in any reference book I consulted so far. I'd hate to pay the price for the helmet, and only then find out that it really doesn't work with my collection.
Thanks in advance...
