got this off ebay yesterday i am not botherd about the paint or decals on this one just the serial no.s on it wich are 666 this is a scary one all coments welcome

The vent holes look like a post war helmet, and besides... double decals on an M40 are pretty rare.

I agree, the vent holes do look large, and that can be indicative of a postwar helmet..............M40 with a national shield would be very rare, and as Shane already points out he suspects both paint and decals are wrong .

But, I thought only war time produced helmets had lot numbers, do post war also have them ? ( I do of course realise that war production used post war would have them )

Please enlighten me someone !

Appears to be a BGS helmet that has been played with.

I just took another look at that helmet, the stampings for the vents are large, but i also compared the size to a Q64/DN475 that I have. That has pretty large vents too...........so there is a chance this is OK.
Let us wait until Shane posts some more, I would like a nice profile shot, The BGS has an enlarged or high 'Forehead' area.

dont mean to be rude to any one out there and thanks for taking the time to leave a responce to the thread

but as far as been a bad helmet whos no's till i have posted better pics these pics are not the best ones in the world,
these pics come direct from ebay..............

and the one and only reason i got this helmet weather it was a compleate rust bucket with more holes than a tbag is the fact it has "666"on so i think that the person who had to were this helmet weather it was in the war or post war must of had a few jokes with it to say the least
i dont think i would want this one it would be like having the devil sat on your shoulders hahahahahahahahaha........................

Biete aus meiner Sammlung ein originalen M42 Stahlhelm der Deutschen Wehrmacht an. Wie auf den Bildern zuersehen ist, besitzt er noch Reste der Normandie - Tarnung (Grün, Gelb, Braun). Das Innenleben fehlt leider, sowie der Innenring. Die 3 Helmnieten sind vorhanden. Im Nackenbereich sind die Zahlen 666 und 3347 eingestanzt. Rost ist kaum

Yes I agree, wait until you have the lid, but based on that last post I fear you may be dissapointed.

The '666' & '3347' is most likely 'Q66' & '3347'..........Sorry mate, and I hope I am wrong, but that is the most likely scenario !

to me the pictures you posted are not much better that the original ones but from what i can see the vent holes look rather large which makes me think its a post war shell with bad decals imo i dont like it, need better close ups of decals please
