Dome STamps and M42s

I would think that by the time the M42 came around, the process of adding a dome stamp would have pretty well been done away with. Yet, I am seeing many for sale with this feature. When, if ever, did the Germans do away with this?

Dome stamps in M42's are common but I don't recall ever seeing one in the late war dark/slate grey M42's..
