    Grave markers.

    Could anyone please tell me what this reads ?

            That is very true Den, I have not seen such a well presented album as this.

            The guy was plainly a sensative sort judgeing by his care with calligraphy and choice of pictures. German graves are balanced by an equal number of allied, as though he understood and felt the loss of all those souls. French rural peasants, fine architecture etc also feature.

            There are also a series of pictures showing the destruction (explosive demolition) of what appears to be French WW1 war memorials. Was this common practice ?

            Here is another, no thought at this early stage of the war of refurbishing helmets !

              Hope this is ok if you get offended please let me know and i will remove the pictures.
              I got this over 20 years ago and was sold by the family in Germany to a friend and he traded to me.

                      this is a rare artifact! i can understand the facination, but i would defenatly not have something which i knew marked a grave like that, and especially not a temporary "grave stone". unless the soldier was a family member of the past, i think its wrong to keep such an item as a souvenir.
                      but the photo album is defenatly a special thing which is rare and a nice thing to add to your collection.

                          Here's a grave marker I found about four years ago in town at an estate sale.

                          The GI was a fairly well known combat photographer.
