I posted this helm back in the fall for opinions. At the time I was searching for opinions as well as gauging interest in it. Opinions varied on it & it's components. Here is the thread

Before placing it for sale (to pay for pending items) I'd like some honest opinions about it

I'll include new fotos of it as well. I have re installed the liner (with very good results) will all the components I removed.

It is a bvl64 with an upside down strike "v". Lot nr. is 5?20.

Here is the money shot. It is a beautiful champagne decal in fantastic shape. There are two very light scratches that seem to dissappear into the decal on the lower right hand of the shield. With my 30x loupe, I cannot see any indication the decal has "snugged" into pre existing scratch marks. The decal is extremely tight to the helm.

The overwehlming opinion is that this is an original decal but the debate seems to be, was it post war added.

Any chance at you going to the Union show in July and bringing that helmet? There are always very qualified people to show your helmet too.

When in July is the show? I'm on vacation in Florida from the 5th to the 13th. I'd have no problem bringing it there for a "hands on" inspection.

Is the helm too scary to comment on? Please take a look at the linked thread from this past fall to view the components. I'm curious of the liner. Some have said 100 original but others have said reproduction. I realize there is not a lot of info on the bvl helms but they were in production in 1943 and before they stopped putting decals on. From what I understand, the bvl's are collectable because of their scarceness.

Do you have a picture of the chinstrap that used to be on the helmet?

The strap was bad so it may have been discarded. I may have thrown it in with my other repro stuff. I will have to take a look.

Wow! This is a tough call. The condition is whats throwing me off, but I'm going to go with that it is original. Worst case senario, a postwar applied original decal. If period, and EXCELLENT example!

I can't find the chin strap. It may have been tossed in the trash. I'm interested in the liner. I realize I posted one foto recently but in the past link there are close ups of it removed from the helm. All I can say is I am the moron who pulled it apart and believe me the pins were tight and the liner was very very secure in the helm. Not that it could not have been installed post war but if it were, all new hardware was used and they did an outstanding job installing it. If the liner and band is original, it adds huge credibility to the helm.

It may be that this helm will always have to be held in order to pass judgment on it.

I can be wrong, but that should be a Ckl shell and it should show an ET shield, right?
Then, actually I cant catch the relation between that rune and an ET one.
