Excellent thread! Here is mine, I have had for over 25 years. Does anyone know the significance of the red stripe across the front. It is marked Peronne France 1917 and 2 names, one on the outside and one on the inside. The name on the outside I believe is the person who brought the helmet back to Canada. It was given to me by my uncle who recieved it from the vets son, for helping to paint a barn back in the 70s. Note it has been camo'd twice!
MARKING of Peronne is on inside as well
Interior. With Liner removed there is another name scripted in the shell.
This is one of my favorite helmets because of the charachter and history and the mystery of the red line painted on the front.
It was suggested that possible Freikorps marking but I dont think so as the helmet I believe was "liberated" in 1917 by advancing Canadians.
