I think that the "chiefs" starting to get tiered writing the word "fake.
Well I wanted to post this one, because he is listed for a very "fair" price = $4200
If this one isn't real well, then someone would make a very big mistake and loose much money.
Both decals are repro IMHO. The SS looks way too "flaky" and bubbled. Real ones have a skin like texture. Hard to expain but that isn't one of them. Party decal is proportionally incorrect and is too thick in physical construction. Look at the corners.
Real decals are micro thin. Price is irrelevant in judging authenticity. I leave it to Perry or Darryl for the final stamp.
Nick,
I would agree with Dan on this one...both decals are high-end repros. The party shield sits proud of the helmet shell. A real one would be "one" with the surface paint. The runes decal is just plain silver...no texture whatsoever. And although there are period decals with the left rune 'slightly' larger than the right, this one is dramatically so. As always, I would be interested to hear who the shell maker is.
I have seen this particular helmet before. I believe it is on the 'warelics' site?? If this is the case, it's been there a very long time and that's another big strike against it.
Nick I was holding back to give other collectors time to study it and give opinions. Something which I think I'll start doing..
I agree the decals are repo's. As mentioned the backing isn't right the dramatic difference in the runes but one thing also not mentioned that I do not accept but other collectors do, is the bluntness in the corners/angles of the runes. In my opinion this is not correct but is accepted by others so each collector will have to decide for themselves on that issue.
