Thanks to you all Gents for showing us those choice items.
I have visited many musuems but it seems some of the best stuff is in private hands.

I've gave my opinions one the last one Billy posted, the model40 I lean towards a toned Heer..
But my opinions are known, lets hear from other collectors here..
      Another nice one Philippe..

No one else want to take a stab at the two helmets on wether they're KM?
Several experianced collectors here, let's hear from you...

On Billy's helmet I note that eagle is way darker than the white on the tri-shield.
Having been in this situation myself when the pics sent could have made it look like a toned heer but when it actually arrived there was no question it was KM, I'm going to go with KM for Billy. The wrong type of lighting can completely dull a KM decal in the pic.
However, the second one posted by Jorn, does look like a toned Heer. Again, it could be the light though.

Arrived today. This snap is a good representation of it.

              All opinions welcome.

              It is an NS shell.

                    Perry,

You posted your example of a KM decal directly underneath my posting for comparison purposes. Obviously done to highlight difference in tone and help the debate.

The snap I have now provided is a good likeness of the piece. This image is very, very similar in colour and tone to the nice M35 DD KM posted by Philippe.

In contrast your KM decal has assumed a much deeper colour to both the aforementioned.

Confining this issue to only colour. Does it follow that anything outside a singular certain colour/tone denounce a decal as faded Heer. Or is there a degree of latitude and variation caused by the passage of time and all the contributory factors that fall into place as a result.

Scrutinising under magnification also greatly assists in determing the uniformity and solidity of a gold decal.

I find the best comparative images regarding colour and tone are obtained whist taken under the same lighting circumstances.

                    Regards,

                    Billy

                      1.

What is lost in the detail of the further decal in both shots is gained in an excellent representation of colour and tone.

                      Regards,

Your pics make it look much better Billy, no doubt. But I have to tell me true feeling in that I'm not 100% sure it actually is. I would feel much better looking at it in person before I made a absolute 100% sure call on it. Please understand I'm not trying to denounce the fact you have a KM. Lighting can make a big difference as you mentioned. You said yourself that since I have mine in my hand that you would believe me when I tell you that mine really is a light green paint. I in turn return that, if you think it's one and your in better position because you have it in your collection, I will take your word for it..
I wanted other collectors here to join in as I didn't want it to be my opinion against yours again, which I hope they do as I think this thread has some rare helmets in it with some good knowledge with serious debate...

As far as differing tones in KM decals, yes I do believe it will vary. But toned Heer decals have fooled many. Here's one I posted before, it's a Heer. I've seen them more toned than this...so you see why I highly speculate one that doesn't have a deep gold. It comes from what I've seen...

And here's your first pic. Maybe you can see a little why I have this opinion..
I going to figure out how to post them side by side soon

Notice the metalic sparkle of both, KM and some Heer decals will share this trait.

                              Perry,

I took great care during this thread not to include my own opinion.

Your first assumption of it being a toned Heer was correct. It was very close to the same tone as another toned Heer I have. From magnification you can view some white/silver in the damaged areas. The KM I will post as a contrast portrays under a loop a solid gold colour throughout, including the areas of damage.

Stwm. I also believe is an army rank not naval. But handling it you realise very quickly that it is not KM. I also agree that images can be deceptive.

Have posted a number of contrasts under the same lighting conditions, I am sure everyone will recognise the deep gold naval decal in any of the snaps.

You are correct Perry about handling, from handling each of these, one is classic silver Heer, one a toned Heer and the other an early Kriegsmarine.

Would not mind my hands on the nice M35 KM you posted Perry, would afford me some excellent contrasts.

                              Regards,

                              Billy
