    Battle of the buldge camo?

    Hi,

I've got 2 bad pictures from a M42 camo helmet. The seller claims that this helmet was used in the battle of the bulge. And is infact a SS helmet. The liner is signed and dated H.K april 7 1945.
"the inside of the helmet is dark black/green color which only the SS and Luft were that color on the m42 helmet."
"the Liner is in good condition small tear about 1 centermeter and liner stamp 66 . chinstrap is on fair condition worn and a old repair done to it . the helemts date is unbelievable april 7 45 the war ended 1 month later"
    What do you think?

        Nick

IMO ( based on these 2 poor pictures), this looks like a good m42 with postwar applied camo-paint... another one that has been screwed up!

The interieur looks good, but based on the first picture-although not very clear - I would turn it down, it just doesn't look right.

Is the chinstrap brown one both sides?

Let's wait for some better pictures

        Cheers

What I would expect from such an helmet, is a white winter camo.

What I would expect from such pictures, is to be clearer.

What I would expect from Belgians, is to spell "Battle of the Bulge" correctly.

            Hi

Thanks for the comments on this one.
This helmet has a tri color scheme camo.
I also think a battle of the BULGE helmet had a winter (white) camo paint.

            Waiting for better pictures
Jan don't know about the chin strap.

Here is an other bad picture.
Seller siad that the (ss) decal remains for about 40%. Well I don't see a thing on this side. I think he will be on the wrong side then

I can't really see/determine anything with those pics to be honest....
Just for note, somewhere I have a reference book on visors but it does have a camo taken from the "Bulge" battle. And it's not whitewashed...I wouldn't expect every camo from the bulge was in whitewash...

Also let me touch on typo errors, I myself get in a hurry a mis-spell words all the time here on the forum. I think most know what I'm trying to say or I can tell what someone else is trying to say if they make the same error. Point being,,I don't want anyone to have to do spell check every post or run for a dictionary. If it's close, go with it and let's not make a big deal on a small issue...

Nick can you get some decent pics?

Wow, I'm afraid the anglo-saxon sense of humor is not any more what it used to be...

                  "O tempora ! O mores !"
                  (if my spelling is good)

Bak to the toppick , well, this camo doesn't look that bad for me... from here, and from those pics. And it's true that the remains of a decal can harshly be seen on the right side. But I imagine that a true "bataille des Ardennes" camo is surely scarce, so what about a "bataille des Ardennes" WSS camo (!!!) helmet.
You need to progress like in a mine field here, Nick. And get the best pictures as possible...

in fact...many of the Heer troops used in Wacht am Rhine were in newly reformed and outfitted Volksgrenadier Divisions. Plain jane uncamouflaged late war no decal M42s were probably as common as anything during the campaign

There is no way to draw any kind of conclusion on the camo from those pictures.

"If you don´t trust the dealer, why don´t you just leave the helmet alone? A m/42 camouflaged helmet is not that hard to find. "

Well, watching how things are going nowadays, the increasing number of helmet collectors AND good paint artists (!), the prices (!!), I don't think a good original camo helmet, whatever the model, is any more that easy to find.

Moreover, it even has become a great deal to find a helmet with its own chinstrap.
Not very surprising today, when you see the price of this little but indispensable accessory out there. I even know some collectors (surely purists) who keep the chinstrap of each and every helmet they sell... moremad . An easy way to make a "little" bonus...

About dealers, I only know a few that can be trusted ; afterall, their goal is to make business ; and what becomes this proportion when you talk about simple sellers, anywhere on the web, or even "colleagues" collectors ? 0.01 % ???
But anyway, the lack of trust is not a sufficient reason to miss a good item.

As an end, as I'm also aware how easy it is to be misunderstood here, I'll take my precautions this time, and hope that nobody in this thread will take for himself what's above in my post.
