Mod 40 KM SD : opinions

    Hello to all

I just obtained this M40 sd KM in a trade ( together with a WW1 French Adrian-style helmet, which I will post later on).

Could someon give my his opinion on this decal? It's a Q-shell, seize 66, named to a certain 'HESCHEL', both written on shell and liner...

It has nice dust build-up between liner and shell, honest wear outside. The decal itself has some major sratches, due to that it looks like the eagleshead looks like a chiken, but it isn't.

I know that due to the scratches and the quality of the pics it is difficult to make an opinion, I will try to shoot some better pics during the week.

If this is a good one, then I think that I made the trade of the day!

sorry for the bad quality ( due to the flashç but this is all I can do because it is dark overhere...

thanks in advance for the help...fingers crossed

      3. Could anyone determine if the KM decal is real only based on the color of it?

            Okay...here's the trade-story.

I was contacted a few weeks ago buy a relative older collector which had a major collection, but mainly postwar belgian and wartime english stuff. I visited him a couple of times and the only thing that I was interested in was this 'KM' helmet!
He told me that a old collegue of him ( at the firebrigade) his father took it once from a german, when they left in sep 44.

I traded a gasmaskcanister and a luftwaffe fieldcap with replaced insignia for it.

In the lot there was also this helmet, a WW1 french adrian-style helmet, untouched and also named...these are getting rare today.

Hope I made a good trade?

                Jan,

The liner and chin strap look good, drawstring appears a modern addition but I presume you already are aware of that. You would need a better snap of the decal but early indication in my opinion is that it has solid golden tone associated with Kriegsmarine. No doubt a better image will hopefully confirm this.

Any Kms I have handled have had the soldiers details painted on the neck similar to yours which seems to be a common trait. Needless to say not all KMs come named. However always nice to get the individuals name on a piece.

                Look forward to better photos.

Thanks so far. Or I will try to take better pics tomorow during the day...or I will use a dig cam from a friend..

some additional info : chinstrap is marked ... Bielefeld 1941, in a square. and metal pieces.

                  cheers

What is the brown on the Adrian? Do you think it is from the "coloniale", or was it repainted by the belgians???
I like that 2 color interior in the Adrian.

Billy, Jan, I'm not that sure that this eagle is a KM one ; as I can be a player sometimes, I bet both of you a "pastis" it's a WH one . But if I lose, you'll have to come here to drink your gain !
Better pics from Jan will tell us who was right.

Jan, Jan... I really think that if you go on this way, you really could have a DD transition helmet one of these days !
Alors ne mollis pas, hein ! It's still waiting for you.
Have a look at the other thread, I'll post an "inside" view very soon.

Anyway, a very good trade here ; M.15 "Adrian" helmets in such a state are no more that easy to find now.
