    Help with visor cap.

    Hello there,

I know this visor cap isn’t a WWII item. But I thought you guys could answer my questions about anyway?

I think its from the West-German army (Maybe police??)... Am I right?

I hope someone can tell me what it is, and where its from.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Bjoern

Bjoern, I would try posting it in the Ken Jasper International forum. You may have better luck there....
Not trying to run you off by no means
Just that most here know WWII German headgear...
      Good luck on your search..

          Bjoern,

It looks to me that the B G S stands for Bundesgrenzschutz meaning West-German.

              Hi,

Most definitely a BGS cap (Bundesgrenzschutz); Early model, before the overhaul of the West German Police uniform that resulted in standardized, dark moss green for ALL states, and the conversion of the insignia to a stamped metal "police star" for all states, as well - AND included the BGS (the eagle and the wreath were dropped). The BGS' version of the new police star had the national emblem (federal eagle) in the center of the star; every other Bundesland had its own state's symbol in the center of the star. The twisted aluminum chin cords were completely done away with. The police reform occurred in 1972, so this cap is mid 60's to 1972 time period. Being that it's made by Peter Kuepper, however, it has to be late or post 1968 since the Berlin firm of Carl Halfar (a wartime military cap manufacturer) had an exclusive production contract with the BGS until 1968. If you're interested in selling it, let me know.
