Helmet Net Warning

WARNING: Very believable, hand made Luft style helmet nets are flooding the market. One dealer had a half dozen for sale at the last Nashville show for $80 apiece and they were scooped up as fast as they hit the table. The nets are a very good copy of the Luft veiled version. So, be careful out there. Netted helmets coming to the next show nearest you!

Bill Shea has a Luft camo net on his site. Bill is typically the best at IDing helmets, but it does make me curious if it is one. Certainly fits the description.

Yes, I was talking about a luft helmet with net that is now gone. It must have sold quick. I think it was $1300+.
I thought it looked quite good.

I think I saw the one of Bill Shea's site, but can't remember for sure. Was it a brown wide mesh net which covered the entire helmet and hung down over the face, and had small steel wire hooks to connect it? Or do I have another in mind?

Yes. I see yours is also on a Luftwaffe (paratroop) helmet. Excellent piece!! Years ago I picked up one from a vet's widow which was a Heer DD M-35 reconditioned to a single decal. It had the typical rough finish gray paint over the apple green, and you could still make out the national colors. There was a bit of battle damage to the skirt, as it had about a 2 or 3 inch crack in it. The net was affixed to the helmet with small wire hooks. I no longer have the helmet, but do have this fuzzy picture. Note that it's army, not Luftwaffe - so obviously these are not just "Luft nets".

The above depicted para helmet is not mine. Since it appears to be a refurbished original shell I supposed the net is also a repro such as the ones mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

The net style with the two "s" hooks, the drawstring with the ring and usually issued with the long hooks is standard Wehrmacht style........used by all branches. No one is claiming they are Luftwaffe. And they don't look like the one pictured on that FJ helmet above. Didn't see the one on Bills' site, but he knows a real net from a bad one.

Actually, the first post states "Luft style helmet nets". That suggests to me a net made "Luftwaffe style", whatever that is.

Here are some details of one of my netted helmets. Judging from the interior, this was a Heer M35 DD. It has a a thick "zimmerit" camo, and the remnants of a white wash on one side. The regulation hooks were used to fasten the net to the shell, and the little veil hooks are pulled around and attached to the liner bales.
