    Grey camo helmet

Hi Guys, I thought that I would share these pics with you taken last week in a museum in Le Muy in the South of France. The museum is ran by two lads named Eric & Michele. The helmet has been painted once in light grey and named to the owner; it has then been overpainted a darker shade of grey and renamed. I think that it is great and I wish that I could have brought it home with me!
    Cheers, Ade.

        a neat helmet, Ade

If I'm correct, these were used in a blokhaus or on battleships?

Hard to see, but there is another name under the top layer of paint.

Hi Jan, that was Eric's thoughts too that the helmet was used by a coastal defence unit in a bunker. The lads only have a small amount of German kit on display as they are mainly US/British Airborne collectors. It is a great little museum with free entry
I will be going back again in August for the anniversary of OP "Dragoon".
              Cheers, Ade.

                  spooky...

                  Gents,

Today I had the chance to view a German helmet painted that exact same light grey color, and was going to ask about it on this forum, and then this thread appears.............

The lid I examined did'nt have a liner, and is a vet. bring-back. Does anyone know for certain if these were for blockhouse troops?

                  Fergus.

Hi Fergus, glad that you found the pics interesting I cannot say for sure that this colour of helmet was only worn by troops manning bunkers. But having seen the area where the helmet came from, this can be the only logical explanation. The terrain is both rocky (red brown in shade) and green with vegetation, so a grey painted helmet would not blend in well.
I asked the lads how much they thought the helmet might worth? They were shocked when I said that I would gladly pay $600 for a helmet like it (It is not for sale.)
What do you guys estimate one like it would fetch?
                    Cheers, Ade.

No I wouldn't go $600. That is a specialized helmet and would only sell to a advanced/specialized collector, someone who's not scared of it. Most collectors would avoid it because it's so odd and it would scare them away from it. Although someone may give $600 for it, when it came time for you to sell you may have to hang onto it awhile untill you found that right collector again.
                      See what I'm getting at?
