    M40 SD Sniper

When I started collecting (really collecting) back in '78/'79, I decided to concentrate on TR medals...combat related only and of course, by default, Heer, Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe, Waffen SS. The collection came along nicely and I got to the point where it was harder to get medals that I ddin't have. So, like many of you, I branched out. I have 5 helmets, one of which you saw recently.
That was the Feldherrnhalle DD M35.
    Here is a M40 SD Army w/the owner's name...an Oberleutnant....and mud mixed with paint. Three more helmet's to show...all keeper's!

That first picture is of the back of the helmet and showd the breadbag strap and that round ring is where you can put the 2 hooks from the front to lift yuor veil and hold it out of the way.
This picture shows the one hook that is on the front. the other one was gone...lost...before I got it.

hi TP, nice lid. actually the round ring you are referring to is the net tightener. the 2 hooks would just be hooked to the netting wherever in the front upper of the helmet. the bread bag strap you state is actually a helmet carrying strap. pretty rare. I think you will get good comments on this piece. more desireable than you probably think. nice overall piece. Glenn

I am totally in love with this helmet.
It came into an Army-Navy Surplus store in LaPorte, Indiana. The owner bought it and 5 minutes later sold it to someone. Advertising pays, because a week later the guy that bought it saw my ad, and needing money for a car payment, sold it to me. I found out about the Army-Navy store part of it because a friend of mine had walked into the store a half minute after the first guy bought it and told me about it. I'd gone to a couple of shows with it for "SHOW AND TELL" and I was tolf that that was a bread bag strap.
What's the buildup mixed with the paint? Sand? Sawdust? Was there any kind of common additive or filler with this type of camo?

Wow nice helmet thanks for posting it
I have a hanger like the one you have on your helmet, but I was never sure what it was for! http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=193086

                    Thanks once again

                          Realy love it
Lassi , again the carrying strap looks to be field made so IMHO the hanger should be just a spare part
