The replies here are brief to say the least and through the links the members seem to say the decal was worn on the right hand side with a heer decal on the opposite side,yet clearly in TKs first book he shows a single decal helmet with the decal on the left side.For a person to post a reply and simply say fake does that mean they have limited knowledge of these items,detailed replies would be much appreciated.The helmet liner is origional and the pins are untouched,and the strap is origional with feint RBNn.I in no way claim to be an expert in these matters.

I agree with you, there is no problem with the helmet itself. The decal however is a fake, I have to agree with the others. The real RAD decals have a more metallic or silver foil look to them, like the silver part of a Heer decal. Also, yours has kind of a goofy look on his face, and the detail on the wreath and other places is not nearly as sharp and crisp as the real ones.

We always hesitate to give details that might help the fakers. I hope this little bit of information is enough to convince you. By the way, it is perfectly correct to see the RAD decal on the right side and the Heer decal on the left, but equaly correct to see the RAD decal applied on the left over a Heer decal.

Terry, I have often wondered about this. The prevailing thought seems to be, if we give out too much information about fakes on a forum such as this one, the fakers will read it and learn how to correct their mistakes--thus producing yet better and better fakes.

This of couse assumes that fakers are dependent on such forums to gather their knowlege.

1. Why would fakers be dependent on forums to do their work? Why could not fakers simply acquire original examples to copy. Would not authentic examples be their best teacher?

2. Would the act of witholding the finer details about fakes tend to hurt the collecting community more than hurt the fakers ability to replicate originals?

My point here is simply that light displaces darkness. If the complete truth about fakes is widely known to collectors, would not collectors then be armed with the finest knowledge available to then make informed decisions?

I fully agree with you Brian. I find it iffy at best that info here could be used in "enhancing" a decal to a better quality. It would largely be much trial and error regardless of the amount of info a faker has. If it is a fake to start with, it will remain a fake.
