M40 Q SS battle damage opinions please.

    Hello Gentlemen,
unfortunately the decal has been almost at 99% scracthed but I think it was a good one .It also has a battle damage on the top of it and the chinstrap is may be a field repair or post war . I don't know where the buckle is coming from( perhaps gas mask ?) What do you think about the liner leather the holes seem really small ?
    Thank you.

The liner looks fine, it is original WWII. The paint and remnants of the decal look real as well, and most certainly the remains of an SS decal. The only negative is the chinstrap, definitely not standard combat German strap. Most likely some foreign made strap added post war. Still a nice helmet in my opinion.

    Regards,
    Terry

Helmet looks nice, it has alot of character. It looks legit as well. The chinstrap as you said is not standard WW2 German. I would leave it in place until you check it out real good. It may be a period field made strap?? looks old in any case.

The reason the holes appear smaller, is the fingers are stretched taut to the center, and has distorted the openings slightly. I like it........
