    Helmet Hook?

    hey guys, any ideas on what the hooks are for on the transitional helmet?

    They look like the bales on a fixed bale M1 American Helmet...

      I have an example like yours. It is even on an Austrian shell like yours. My theory is that the hooks were added as an experiment, and used for strapping it to a back pack when marching and not wearing the helmet. Mine is a sgl decal Heer, as I suspect yours is?

        Thanks for the input Terry. This is a piece that I am considering, so I'm grateful for the input. It is a DD Heer. Suspected that the hooks would be for something like that, but I have not seen one before.

          I understand that these shells were post WW1 produced (when they geared up and re-armed). They refitted WW1 surplus shells and produced a limited run of WW1 style shells before the introduction of the M35. (Also did this with the M-18 cut out and RZM shells)

          These 1920's era shells had the bales affixed to the skirt.
          You will not see many helmets with this feature. Most every "transitional" or "reissue" does not have the bales. That is a nice feature that makes these types of shells collectible in my book.
