Nice comparasion, the second one gives no hint of light colored areas and is a more rich looking gold/yellow.

        Perry,

        Comparison for you.

        http://www.therupturedduck.com/WebPa...lmets/h245.htm

One is the decal on my M35DD Camo that you delieve is a toned Heer (subject of much debate) and the other is listed on Bill Sheas site for sale as an M35 DD KM.

Both are early M35s and both are ET shells.

        Interested to know your thoughts.

            Perry,

Both decals appear identical. Lighting conditions are slightly different, but the solid gold and that ridge affect is common to both and shows up well. Early ET shells receiving a similar run in KM decal.

I have also extensively searched forum archives and reference books in an effort to discover if a Heer decal existed with similar traits of a ridge type affect as suggested by yourself. I am afraid I cannot find such an example. If anyone out there has one or knows of a reference to one I would be extremely grateful. An absence of such is strong indication that Heers did not have that ridge and as such it is another method of checking the validity of an early KM.

Your thoughts on if you are still opinionated that one of these decals is a toned Heer in light of this recent post.

            Regards,

            Billy

Billy these decals are not the same. The differences are obvouis. Different maker...Notice the details in the fletching and it's color(the lines).
Yes they are out there but rarely encountered...I wouldn't give up on a few weeks searching through your resources...

                Perry,

I assume then that one remains toned Heer & the other KM in your opinion?

Billy my answer is in this thread, I would rather see it in person to be 100% sure but from the photo's a learn towards a toned Heer...this is what I stated in the begining, please have a look..
But the two decals you posted are totally different by different makers..

                    Perry,

Cheers, thanks for the quick reply. Am in total disagreement with you but I appreciate the dialogue.

would it be possible for you to highligh were the differences are in these 2 decals?

I have 2 M35 ET's (1 heer, 1 Km) and 2 M40 ET's (1 heer, 1 KM) and I've spent the last 20 minutes comparing them and also with the 2 posted by Billy and I just can't see the differences, a part from colour.

I think it would be highly beneficial to see the obvious differences that I just can't see.

Here is one example of mine (M35 heer)

I think it's on this forum that I saw a member who had as motto : "I never learned something from someone who agreed with me" (if I remember well). Too bad seeing collectors having hard words, and taking "lack of knowledge" as an insult. It is not for me, as I learn every day, here and there, about helmets and a few other things . For me, the lack of friendship, tolerance and mind opening (if it's the right term) is much more serious than the lack of knowledge on KM decals.

I'm happy to see Bill back here, and open discussion again. Each of us has its own personality, and some here are much less "easy" than others ; I met a lot of nice people here and on German Daggers also, and I learned to deal with both decals and people's defaults...

Back to the topic, I'll put my two cents here at first to remind everybody I won the contest on KM/toned Heer decals (0 mistake), and that I'm still waiting for my prize...

And to say that the difference between the two kind of decals is often a "guts" question, and that photos can often be deceptive. On my M.40 KM, I had to take several photos to get the most realistic color of the real decal's color (below). And even this pic (the best one) is far to be perfect :

Rich, I would agree with you and say that the color is the only key. I had a discussion with a dealer recently (easy to find which one) about two helmets. The left one was sold as a KM, the right one as a toned Heer ; so bad I wasn't able to buy both... But he agreed both denominations were bad in these two cases.

As an end, I'll say that it's not a shame to ask somebody else a hand on a doubtful point (Perry and Bill) ; who never answered "I don't know" to a question ???? It's much more clever to put one's pride apart (well, a little bit of it only) than to make a mistake... At least IMO. And isn't sharing "problems" one of the most interesting things in our hobby ?

Well, here's what I hope to be my next KM helmet ; it's not a "problem", is it ?

                              hmm ... well chris

I think this is a toned KM. That is a KM that has turned into a Heer, ha ha

                              looks good to me.

Ty, do you mean KM decals do not have the right to get toned too ? I can't believe how narrow-minded you can be, sometimes !

I feel like playing a little bit ; what would you say about this one ? KM or Heer ? Morale and solution of the game : as soon as at least 6 members gave their opinion.

PS : a clue : don't give the priority to the color, and you'll see if the shape of the eagle is of a great help...
