Could this be a KM decal?

    Hi guys,
Does this look like a KM decal? The decal is a deep gold tone all over.

        John,

Attached is a Heer decal. Like yours it has assumed a yellow/golden appearance and no doubt would fool many if it was listed as a Kriegsmarine piece.

        Regards,

          John,

Here is a Kriegsmarine decal which is on an M35 DD. Note the concise golden brilliance of the decal and the metallic quality present. There are other more subtle differences but these are the main pointers.

          Regards,

          Billy

Late KM decals tend to be a little lighter, not much..

Billy I'm neutral about yours...maybe it's the pic but looks like it could be a very toned Heer decal as well. It may be the pic, are you using alot of light?

I've noticed alot of the early KM decals tend to spiderweb in the black background...not all but more so than its Heer counterpart..

Who had that killer M35 KM reissue posted awhile back? It had a killer example of a late KM decal..hopefully they'll post it..

            Here's one on a early M35..

You won't have doubt when you see a KM decal....if your going "well I'm not sure, maybe" then more than likely it's not....

                Decal

                Hi Perry and others,
Thanks, I wanted to make sure before I sold the helmet.
                Regards,

                  Perry,

The initial post by myself is a classic example of a Heer decal which has faded to a yellow hue, however it lacks the metallic content of the later Kriegsmarine decal. The Kriegsmarine is on an early M35 DD Camo with soldiers details painted on the neck. The faded Heer is also an early example on an M35 DD.

Granted that a photograph can cause confusion, especially on this subject, however the assertion that it may be a faded Heer akin to my first posting is not correct. IT IS A KM DECAL. I have attached further snaps. Image captured under natural sunlight on an overcast day in cloudy Northern Ireland. Other qualities are also evident in comparison.

                  Regards,

                  Billy

                        It could be the pics...
For note though, Heer adlers have metallic content as well, just look at the Heer decals posted thus far, the color is the key....
Maybe some others will take a look at it, or add pics of known KM decals....

                          Perry,

Implying that there is doubt concerning this decal I find somewhat confusing to say the least. This helmet was comprehensively listed on another forum with all concerned hailing it as a beautiful example of an early Kriegsmarine decal. Image quality was on a par with that posted here.

I welcome all comments concerning the validity of this decal.

                          Have attached a link.

Yeah but you also have to consider people praise the wares of N&T, Helmet.com, Ulric of England, etc,. there as well...Not picking on any site, but there are people that see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil, no matter what...

KM decals are not as qustionable as collectors think, they were made with a clear, dramatic color difference in mind..

                              Perry,

The reason I attached the link is because it would have taken me an age to replicate the various comments and the story concerning this piece. There is no alterior motive. Allocation of the decal to the Kriegsmarine has never been called into question before.

Again you further imply that this is not a Kriegsmarine Decal.

Without being sidetracked on other matters you refer to I would be obliged if fellow collectors out there can focus their attention on this decal and provide opinion.

                              Regards,

                              Billy
