    Pith Helmet Question

Have any of you guys ever "steamed out" a crumpled top on a German Pith Helmet, I was thinking that I could steam one out and use a spaghetti strainer or something similar to hold shape while it dryed? Any thoughts? Chris..

A German 'pith helmet' is actualy made of cork. if the cork is mis-shapen, you might be able to do something. If it is broken into pieces, internally, nothing can be done.

Chris, of which type of PH are you referring to, the 1st model (cork & canvas) or the 2nd model, made of the thin brown felt material?

So, has anyone tried this with any success? Steaming out/etc of a helmet that has the top slightly smooshed in? I imagine it would be easier to do with felt than cork helmets? Chris...

It's best to probably try to gently press out the damaged cork. Steam, being so hot, may cause damage, as in staining to the fabric.
